London's Living Room

As part of the festival of Architecture in 2008. O>N>E were asked to coordinate the stage for the opening event. The design took to carpeting the courtyard at Somerset House to turn it into London largest Living room, complete with oversized furniture. During the day after the events opening the space was used for people to relax and picnic in the Sun.

I found out recently and to my amazement that my grandmother in the 1950s had helped stage a similar design stunt. They had turned the courtyard of Somerset house into a lawn to draw attention to the inland revenue taking tax for sales of her bosses invention the "Somerfield" track that was used to help vehicles cross difficult terrain during the war.
