Whilst working for Miurashin Architects in Tokyo we were asked to design an residential building for 7 small apartments.
1. To create a communal garden space (highly unusual within Tokyo's tight cityscape.)
2. To allow each apartment three different views over three floors.
3. To create a facade which does not reveal the complex nature of the spaces within.
The result was a complex network of apartments. The design challenge was the circulation, the stairs needing to interweave to allow an apartment to have a 360 view, whilst not compromising the spaces of the other apartments.
